Sad news of L.C. Mathison

Imogene Mathison Mixson said that a student had an appointment with L. C. 8:00 am Friday morning and he didn't show, which was most unusal for him.  He is never late, so they called home, got no answer, contacted the authorities and found him dead in his bed. Apparently he died in his sleep.

Leslie Cornelius (L. C.) Mathison, age 70, died peacefully in his home in Opelika on Friday, September 28, 2012. He had been employed by Auburn University in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, retiring on August 31, 2012. He is survived by three daughters, Dr. Sally Mathison, Long Beach CA, Julie (David) Mallette, Birmingham, AL, and Kerry (John Paul) Schaefer, Carbondale, CO, five grandchildren, Bret Mathison, Jordyn and Austyn Mallette, Kevin Drudge and Charles Schaefer, two brothers, Aron (Marie) Mathison, Shreveport, LA, Julian (Sue) Mathison, Merritt Island, FL, one sister, Rosaland (Jose) Tallet, Bonaire, GA, and one sister-in-law, Dr. Joyce Mathison, New Orleans, LA, and a host of nieces and nephews. L. C. was born on December 4, 1941 in Ozark, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Cornelius and Sallie Hughes Mathison, and one brother, Dr. Jerrell Mathison. The memorial service for L. C. will be held on Thursday, October 4, at 2:00 PM at Auburn United Methodist Church Founders Chapel with Dr. George Mathison officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Auburn United Methodist Church.
