It seems that all of our new news is sad

 Springville – Glenda Miller Tucker, age 82, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in her home at Crawford’s Cove, Springville, Alabama where she had lived the last 49 years.

She was born May 8, 1942, in Ozark, Alabama. Glenda graduated from Carroll High School, Class of 1960. She received her RN degree from Carraway School of Nursing and her BS and BA degrees from Samford University.

Glenda was employed by Carraway Methodist Medical Center for over 30 years as a clinical coordinator, charge nurse, diabetic educator and a number of other positions, after retirement returned as a volunteer for 10 years. She was a member of the Springville Methodist Church.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence O’Neal Miller and Grace Tharpe Miller. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jerry Flynn Tucker; sisters, Marjorie Edwards of Pensacola, Florida and Judy McLaughlin of Ozark, Alabama; and brother, Michael Miller of Ozark, Alabama.

The family will receive friends on Monday October 14, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel followed by intermittence at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

 Jerry E Bass

July 7, 1942 — September 30, 2024
Mr. Jerry E. Bass, a resident of Ozark, died early Monday afternoon, September 30, 2024, at his home. He was 82.
 
 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 3, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Grimes. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
 
 Mr. Bass, son of the late Henry Albert Bass and Doris Bass Fontenot, was a native of Midland City and moved to Ozark in 1951. He was a 1960 Graduate of Carroll High School. He owned and operated Daleville Auto Parts in Daleville for many years. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Bass Spicer.
 
 Surviving relatives include his two sons, Michael Bass, Ozark and Joel Bass, Headland; five grandchildren, Patrick McDaniel (Ashley), Matthew Bass, Courtney Gilmer (Sam), Brannon Bass, and Ethan Spicer; mother of his children, Shirley Chancey Yelverton, Dothan.

Death of a class mover and shaker

 It is with sadness that I share with you the death of Ann Adams Knowles. Her housekeeper found her dead in her bed when she arrived this morning; apparently passing peacefully in her sleep. 

Her funeral will be at a later date, following her grandaughter's wedding that Ann had planned to attend.

News of Wendell Payne - a LEADER

 I am so sorry to let you know that Wendell Payne died this morning at 6:30 a.m. He was at home but had suffered a severe heart attack earlier. He wanted to go home given his options in the hospital. He was with his family which is where he wanted to be. His obituary is listed on Holman Funeral Home of Ozark.

Another loss

  OZARK…Mr. Sammy Joe Turner, a resident of Ozark, died Saturday, January 13, 2024, at his home. He was 81.

            In keeping with the wishes of Mr. Turner, private graveside services were held at Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark was in charge of arrangements.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741

            Mr. Turner, son of the late Estelle Parrish Turner and Obie J. Turner, was a native of the Asbury Community. He worked in the grocery business for forty-six years and was an owner of CCT Company, Inc. and Tri-State Distributors, both of which were grocery distributors. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tommie P. Turner; sister, Mary Ella Cantrell, and a brother, James Billy Turner.
