Sad loss of a classmate

 BETTY JEAN HANCOCK HALEY

19 Dec 1942 – 8 Jan 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Betty Jean Haley, who departed this life on January 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 19, 1942, in Birmingham, Alabama, Betty was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. Her journey through life was filled with love, devotion, and a spirit that touched the hearts of many.

Betty was the cherished daughter of James and Myrtle Hancock. She grew up surrounded by the warmth of family, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Faye Masters, and her devoted husband, Aubrey “Sam” Haley, whom she loved deeply and missed dearly. Betty is survived by her loving sister, Gloria Powell, her beloved daughters, Sheila Dashoff and Cinda “Cid” Haley, her son-in-law, Steve Lewis, and her cherished grandson, Mitchell Dashoff. Each of them carries a piece of her heart and the beautiful legacy she created.

A woman of remarkable strength and grace, Betty dedicated many years of her life to her career, retiring as a secretarial engineer from NASA, where she contributed to extraordinary achievements that advanced space exploration. Her professional life was a testament to her intelligence, determination, and hard work. Betty’s legacy extends far beyond her professional achievements; she was a devoted wife, loving mother, treasured grandmother, and Mama Haley to so many, who poured her heart into nurturing her family and building lasting memories.
Betty was also a longtime member of the Sherwood Baptist Church family, where she found community and a sense of belonging. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joyous moments and challenges. She touched the lives of many within her church and the broader community, embodying kindness, compassion, and a spirit of service.

A funeral service to honor Betty's remarkable life will be held at Sherwood Baptist Church on February 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM. As we gather to celebrate her memory, we invite all who knew and loved her to join us in reflecting on the beautiful impact she had on our lives

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to Sherwood Baptist Church or the Dementia Society of America, organizations that held significance for Betty and her family.
We would like to take a moment to express our profound gratitude to Pioneer at Upland Park for their compassionate care of our mother over the last few years. Additionally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care for their unwavering kindness and support during her final days. Your dedication to Betty's care brought comfort not only to her but to all her family members.

Betty Jean Haley's spirit will forever remain in our hearts, and her legacy will continue to inspire. She leaves behind a world that is a little brighter and a family that is eternally grateful for the love she shared. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those who awaited her in eternity.
